Images can be made available under various different licensing arrangements.
Some of the most common types are listed here, together with some guidelines around what the different types of licences allow.
You are allowed to use Creative Commons images; however, a copyright attribution is still required.

You may be able to use Meta and Tripadvisor images under the copyright exception for fair dealing for the purposes of research or study. However, these images are protected by copyright. The copyright holder is usually the person who took the image, rather than Meta or Tripadvisor. A copyright attribution is required.

If you have not purchased a licence from the image bank, then you are not permitted to reproduce, reprint or adapt an image. If you have purchased a licence, then you may reproduce an image. Some of these image banks state that you may make these reproductions without copyright attribution. Whilst this is the case in some other countries, it is not the case in Australia. They must be attributed here, in line with the Moral Rights provisions of our Copyright Act.
Some clip art images do not require you to obtain permission in order to reproduce them, however, most do. If you obtain clip art from a free clip art website, you will be required to check the copyright status of the image to determine how you are able to use it. These images must be attributed in line with the Moral Rights provisions of the Australian Copyright Act and also include any copyright attributions as specified by the website.
